Overview

From 1999–2012, I served as lead photographer and graphic designer for the University of Louisville Athletic Department, supporting all varsity athletic programs across photography, print, and environmental design. The role required managing a wide range of visual communication needs within a high-visibility Division I athletics environment, where consistency, speed, and production quality were critical across every season, sport, and audience touchpoint.

As lead photographer, I produced studio portraits, game action photography, and promotional imagery across every sport. The work demanded both creative control and fast execution, with imagery needed for media distribution, recruiting materials, athletic marketing, and other university communications. Whether capturing controlled portrait sessions or high-intensity live competition, the focus was always on creating imagery that reflected the energy, discipline, and identity of Louisville Athletics while meeting the practical demands of ongoing production.

In parallel, I led graphic design initiatives ranging from media guide covers and recruiting brochures to large-scale environmental graphics, facility murals, and branded installations. Each project required close alignment with athletic branding standards while also elevating the visual presentation of the department across print and physical spaces. The work extended beyond traditional collateral into immersive branded environments that helped reinforce the identity of Louisville Athletics for athletes, recruits, staff, and fans.

Because the department supported multiple varsity programs simultaneously, the role required balancing creative direction with production efficiency at scale. Every deliverable needed to function as part of a broader visual system while still serving the specific needs of different sports, campaigns, and communications goals. This created a unified approach across photography, print, and environmental graphics rather than treating each area as a separate discipline.

The result was a cohesive visual identity that supported recruiting efforts, fan engagement, media presentation, and the university’s broader athletic brand through consistent, high-quality execution across a wide range of formats.
