Overview

Louisville Acupuncture Works is a Louisville, Kentucky practice providing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for chronic and acute conditions in a calm, patient-focused environment. The existing website relied heavily on WordPress plugins and subscription-based tools, several of which had expired or were missing active licenses. This created stability issues and made the site difficult to maintain or update reliably. Rather than continuing to patch a fragile system, the project evolved into a complete rebuild focused on performance, maintainability, and long-term reliability.

The site was rebuilt as a lightweight, plugin-minimal WordPress implementation, replacing many plugin-based features with custom development. This eliminated unnecessary plugin dependencies and recurring subscription costs while improving stability, performance, and overall ease of maintenance. The rebuild also included migrating the website to a more reliable hosting environment, helping improve operational stability and creating a stronger technical foundation for the practice moving forward.

Alongside the technical rebuild, the project also included development of a cohesive visual identity for the practice. The brand was built around the client’s color preferences and aesthetic goals, with collaborative logo development that combined an icon provided by the client with custom typography and additional refinement. This helped create a more unified visual system that could be applied consistently across the website and support a stronger overall presentation of the practice.

To improve clarity and search visibility, the site structure was reorganized and dedicated service pages were created for key treatments and specialties. This made it easier for patients to understand available services while also strengthening the site’s foundation for search visibility around acupuncture-related topics. Prior to the rebuild, the practice was already generating measurable local search activity through Google Business Profile, including 71 monthly interactions, 558 profile views, and 194 searches. Since launch, the website has generated more than 33,000 Google Search impressions across treatment-related queries.

The result is a more stable, maintainable website and cohesive brand presence that supports patient discovery, education, and appointment scheduling while eliminating unnecessary plugin dependencies and subscription costs.
